Hello and welcome back to the Dorchester Middle School Blog!

After last week's Chocablog, I was worried that I would have to scratch around looking for things to include this week but how wrong was I?

Lots of exciting things to report so here we go...

Award Winning DMS

Two awards were made from the Dorset Arts & Crafts Fund for 2023, to Dorchester Middle School and to Luccombe Hub.

Creative Club is open to all abilities in Year 6 of Dorchester Middle School. The Club’s purpose is to be creative, designing small projects in different materials, gaining skills which will reinforce classroom skills.

The grant funding will support the production of a school mural which will display the school ethos of ROARS (Ready, Original, Ambitious, Respectful, Safe). This will be displayed in the school foyer, creating a focal point for celebrating achievements within school.

The award was presented at the DACA AGM to Fiona Turner & Katrina Vernon from Dorchester Middle School, by Amy Yeats (DACA Grant Officer) and Jenny Gurden (DACA Chair).

Books, books everywhere

Over the last few days, we have been lucky enough to have the Scholastic Book Fair in school. I was really impressed with the wide selection of books that were on offer. Personally, I was spoilt for choice when it came to purchasing books for my 15 year old so I can't begin to imagine how any of you were able to choose which books to buy - I would have bought them all!

It was lovely to see so many parents and children after school at the fair and I hope you have been enjoying your purchases!

Worth a Mention Children

All of our children are, without a doubt, worth a mention but there are always children in the school who go above and beyond and who ROAR loudly - they certainly deserve the limelight.

Here are the recent names that have made their way on to the boards in Year Five and Year Six.

I can't wait to see whose names will be on the boards this week!

DMS does Parkrun - the return!

It was brilliant to see so many of you at Junior Parkrun on Sunday to mark International Women's Day.

My goodness me, aren't you a whizzy lot! I tried to take some pictures but you were all too fast for me. Dorsetbays have nothing to worry about - my pictures are very poor by comparison.

We will defintely be back - watch this space!

Year Five Blog Squad

Here is a report from Jessica:

This week, on Wednesday, it was International Women's Day. It is a global day celebrating the social, cultural ad political achievements of all the women across the world. The day also marks a call to action for celebrating women's equality. It is celebrated on the 8th March as a focal point in the Women's Rights Movement which brings attention to gender equality.

Also, on the 8th March is was Mathematics Day which is celebrated in India but now celebrated world-wide.

Dedication - that's what you need!

How fabulous is this picture?

Gorgeous!

Year 5 Celebration Assembly

We are getting very excited about next Friday's Celebration Assembly at the Thomas Hardye Theatre.
A member of staff will be on the gate at Thomas Hardye to check you in before you enter the school site. It is important that you are checked in, this is a requirement from the school and part of their safeguarding procedures. Understandably, we are not permitted to wander around the school site.

The assembly starts at 2pm and will last for approximately for an hour.

After the assembly, the children will return to school and can be collected at the usual time of 3.30pm.

We are so looking forward to sharing the children's numerous successes with you!

Sandy Park, the home of Exeter Chiefs Rugby Club

The following words are from our wonderful Mr Roberts:

Pupils from all years journeyed to Devon on Thursday 9th March.

The reason?

Learning what jobs can be found in a professional sports environment.

Aron Struminski-Senior Community Manager-guided our pupils around every part of the club: from the pitch to the kitchens and from the therapy rooms to the gym.

It was a superb opportunity for pupils to open their eyes and see what hard work can attain.

Thanks goes to Miss Redding, Mr Critchells(x2) and the organiser, Mr Heaton.

Red Nose Day

Don't forget Red Nose Day this Friday.
We are encouraging the children to swap an element of their school uniform for something red in exchange for £1 that goes to this excellent charity.

Now, where did I put my red socks?

PTFA Disco

I am so excited!
Next Friday, 24th March, sees the first school disco that DMS has seen for a while.
There are still a few tickets left so what are you waiting for?
I am so looking forward to seeing you there!

Well, that's it for this week. I will be back with the next instalment in the next few days.

Until then...

Mrs Ray and the Blog Squad.

(Mrs Ray went to Christchurch at the weekend to see her University friend and went on the coldest walk ever - it was even colder than when we went to Stonehenge. Brrrrr!)
